Steamboat fishing, Yampa style!

I went up to Steamboat Springs this past weekend with some friends and did a little fishing on the Yampa River. Mostly fished on a section of the river in town. There are lots of tubers and kayakers on this river which did not seem to bother the fish too much. We caught a few of these nice rainbows on Blue Wing Olive and bead head nymphs. There is a pond at the parking lot that they stock with rainbows (good for the kids). There was a huge hatch that happened in the pond and the fish were going nuts. There was one in front of me that jumped about five times in a row. Thought it was going to land in my pocket. Wish I had some video of this. We caught several of these during the hatch. After that we headed to the car and the parking lot was full of the hatch. Millions and millions of them flying over head. Not sure on the species (did not have a sieve). It was pretty amazing. By the time I headed for the camera they where almost gone.

Isaiah and Tim, that was some good fun!!!
